Travel is the main contributor to a wedding’s carbon footprint, followed by the energy used by hotel room, the ceremony, and the reception. We assume a small wedding has 75 guests. We assume that 5 are flying a medium distance (1 to 3 hours), and 10 are taking short flights (an hour or less). We assume the rest of the guests are driving from an average distance of 50 miles away, with two people per car. We assume that all the guests spend 2 nights in a hotel room. We assume the wedding ceremony lasts about 1 hour and the reception 4 hours (including setup and cleanup time).
