A greener home
Your home is where the small steps make a huge difference. Recycling, using CFL’s, buying energy-star appliances, and washing clothes in cold water can actually cut tons out of your home footprint (and dollars out of your utility bills)! The average American home’s energy use produces a little more than 3 tons of greenhouse gases every 3 months. When you buy Offsets by Brighter Planet for your home, you’ll be helping communities across the US install clean, renewable energy for their homes, schools and farms. We all wish we could run our homes on solar and wind power — here’s a way to help feasible projects come to life!
Which package is right for you?
This page offsets three months of home energy use. If that doesn’t sound right, check the packages for one, six, and twelve months of home offsets, or offsets for a college dorm room.
How do we calculate your home’s emissions?
The US Energy Information Association publishes statistics on home energy use, including heating, cooling, and electricity consumption. We take the total emissions from the energy used by all homes in the US and divide it by the number of households. The result is about 12.5 tons each year, or a little over 3 tons every 3 months.
